KIA ORA!
“We know from myths and fairy tales that there are many different kinds of powers in this world. One child is given a light saber, another a wizard's education. The trick is not to amass all the different kinds of power, but to use well the kind you've been granted.” - Susan CainWelcome to Montessori Lite, a home-based Montessori environment for 2.5 to six year olds. Montessori at home has been the dream for years now, and I am beyond excited about sharing our beautiful wee space with your whānau! The home-based context means that Montessori Lite is a very special kind of Montessori, and you are more than welcome to visit and chat with me about our space and this philosophy. We are located in Stoke, and open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5:30pm.Montessori Lite is delighted to represent and be represented by Village Kids, led by the Rather Lovely Kirstie Van Houtte (who is also Montessori-trained, just quietly).Montessori
Considering this style of education for your wee folk? Here is a quick and easy-to-read introduction to Montessori, along with Trevor Eissler's mad drawing skills for your viewing pleasure. Utopian visions ftw.The heart of the Montessori method is about showing little people how to be people. I love this philosophy...and I struggle with feeling like I have to "sell" it. I do think quality learning spaces (Montessori or not) speak for themselves. While Montessori environments share philosophy and have many of the same materials, they are all unique spaces. As mentioned already, you are welcome to visit - I'm more than happy to korero about why I love what I do, and what this way of teaching and learning looks and feels like to me.Our Whānau
Sunanda
Kia ora! I’m Sunanda and I live in Stoke with my partner Hamish and our fur-baby Oscar. This Montessori life began in Japan, where I started as an assistant in a Montessori Infant Community (18 months - 3 years) environment. I was - and still am, all these years later - blown away by the beauty, calm and variety of considered mahi with endless time to explore it all...and that was only the toddlers! Until that experience I had never really considered how nuanced play can be, and how capable children truly are. After graduating from an AMI-accredited training centre in India in 2010, I spent the next 10 years teaching in and leading Montessori Casa Dei Bambini (3-6) environments in Sydney and Nelson...and here we finally are. While babies and toddlers are good fun/not for the faint-hearted, I do love the conversations of 3-6 year olds. They also have arguably the best toys.Hamish and I agree that Montessori is to me what XBox is to him, and other things spark joy too - books have always been the most consistent and constant of friends, I am easily enticed to the beach, completely swayed by ice-cream and I will always, always dance to Faithless. Nau mai, haere mai. :)Hamish
"There are darknesses in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights."- Bram StokerHamish assures me that a blurb is coming. Eventually.Montessori Lite is only possible because of the endless awhi and aroha I receive from this man. Truly, the light of all lights.Oscar
Oscar is our rescue cat who came with us from Sydney. Feline is significantly broader than he appears in the image, and definitely NOT starving despite his endless protestations to the contrary. Be ye not deceived. Please note that Oscar does have run of the house, because it's his home - something to bear in mind if your child is allergic to animals.Find Us
